Data Transfer & Recovery

Your data is the most valuable part of your computer. If you need help moving it to a new device, or recovering it from an old one, we can help.

Recovery Vs Transfer

Data Recovery is the process of retrieving inaccessible data from old, antiquated, or broken devices. We recover the data and make it accessible again.

Data Transfer is the process of moving data from one storage location to another. We transfer your data from your current machine to your new machine.

What we can do for you

In either case, we can handle the entire moving process for you.

  • New Computer – We can transfer your documents, pictures, music, videos, and favorites from your old machine to your new laptop or desktop so it feels familiar right away.
  • Hardware Failure – If your computer won’t turn on, we can often pull the drive out and save the data to a USB stick or a new drive for you.

How long does a data transfer take?

For a standard transfer to a new computer, it's usually a quick turnaround (1-2 days). It mainly depends on the speed of the device you're transfering data from and the amount of data to be moved. We will keep you updated on the process for as long as it takes, and if we expect it to take longer for any reason.

I bought a new computer. Can you move my old data to it?

Yes. When you buy a new computer through us we can set up your new device with all your old files (photos, Word docs, PDFs) already in place. If you've already bought a new computer, bring it to our office along with your old machine and we can migrate things over.

Can you move my programs too?

In most cases, yes. Programs usually need to be reinstalled on the new machine. We can help you do that if you have your license keys or account logins ready. Occasionally, programs may not be compatible with new hardware. Likewise, some licenses are issued per device and need to be repurchased for new hardware. In these sitatuions, we might be limited in what we can do.

How long does data recovery take?

Data Recovery can be tricky. It can vary depending on the extent and type of damage. We will tell you upfront about how long we estimate it might take based on our initial assessment of your unique situation, and update you as we gather more information.

Can you recover data from a dead computer?

In many cases, yes. Even if the computer doesn't turn on, your data is stored on the hard drive. As long as the drive itself isn't damaged or encrypted without a recovery key we can usually recover your files to an external drive or a new machine.

My computer got wet/dropped. Is the data lost?

Not necessarily. Hard drives are surpisingly tough. If this happens, turn off the computer immediately and bring it to us. Trying to turn it on can cause more damage. We will take a look at it and tell you if the data is retrievable.

Can you recover data from old drives or USBs?

In many cases, yes. We can recover data from most places data can be stored. The age of the storage medium (CD, floppy disk, external drive, internal drive, USB, SD card, and so on) does factor into our ability to retrieve it. Let us know where and how your data is stored and we'll work to get it onto something you can use again.
