123 Offsite Backup

Computers crash, hard drives fail, laptops get dropped, and occasionally accidents like fire happen. In the event of disaster, 123 Offsite Backup is a simple way to keep recovery copies of your important digital files in a safe, secure, cloud location outside of your home or office.

How it Works

123 Offsite Backup runs periodically in the background to quietly copy the latest version of your important files to our secure cloud storage. Depending on how frequently you want backups to be made, and whether you want just a few files or your entire computer, we can set up an automatic routine that keeps your data safe.

Why Automatic?

A big problem with traditional backups, like plugging in a USB or external drive, is that we’re human. It’s easy to forget, lose data, or have it be stolen. With 123 Offsite Backup, protection is built in:

  • Set it and Forget it – Once a routine is built, backups runs automatically in the background. You don’t have to remember to plug anything in, or click anything. Routines can also be changed on the fly. If you decide you need changes to your backups, it’s as simple as letting us know.
  • Ransomware Protection – If a virus or ransomware locks your computer, your offsite backup is a clean copy that you can restore from, saving you from having to pay the malicious actor who stole your data to restore it. (Tip: Never do this!)

    How long are backups kept?

Typically, our clients like to keep up to one year of backups. This means backups greater than 1 year old will be replaced by the newest backup. However, depending on the specifics of your situation and what you need, we can adjust your routine to fit whatever you're most comfortable with. Contact us with the specifics and what you're most concerned about protecting and we'll help you determine what's most beneficial to you.

I already have Google Drive / Microsoft OneDrive / Dropbox. Is that a backup?

Not exactly. Services like Dropbox are great for sharing files, but if you accidentally delete a file on your computer, it often deletes it from Dropbox too. 123 Offsite Backup is designed to keep a history of your files at certain intervals, so if you delete something by mistake a historic version can be retrieved.

I already make backups to a USB flash drive. Do I need 123 Offsite Backup?

We often see clients who are diligent about their work but rely on a single laptop or an old external hard drive to store years of business data or family photos. In our opinion, it is too risky to keep just one local back up. 123 Offsite Backup keeps data safe from physical disasters like theft and fire, and digital ones like ransomware. It's a small service that makes a big difference, and we can set it up remotely in just a few minutes.
